Formed in Massachussetts suburbia, Blind Drive consists of brothers guitarist Robbie and drummer Mike Houdlette, brothers bassist Dan and vocalist Ted Natoli, and guitarist Matt DeLorenzo. Their style ranges from mellow jazz grooves to alternative/punk jams to the heavy side of hard rock. The band origninated as the product of the Houdlette brothers, with Robbie playing the guitar and singing over brother Mike's astute drumming, and formerly went under the name "Cause for Concern." Consequently, most all of the current songs were written by Robbie, whose deep, intelligent, lyrics and thick guitar playing permeate the music. Dan Natoli was added to the band after meeting and practicing with Mike and Robbie. His funky, original, and ever-present slaps and grooves, along with Mike's conncinate drumming make for a tight rhythm section. Through the band's connection with Dan, vocalist Ted soon began practicing with the band in the summer of 2001. His vocals and lyrics brought the band one step closer to completion. As a side project, Dan, Mike, and Matt, along with drummer Zack Ianazzi, formed the band "Reeking Haddok." When things didn't work out, Matt soon began practicing with Blind Drive. Learning the songs quickly, Matt brought a whole new dimension to the music with his crunching riffs and blazing solos. Having five members allows the band to draw from many different influences. These include emo artists such as Bright Eyes; punk and rock artists like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Nine Inch Nails, and AFI, and hard rock and heavy metal artists Rage Against the Machine, Tool, and Dream Theater. Although seemingly quite different, elements from these influences combine to give Blind Drive a distinct, powerful sound. The band began playing locally at parties and a church hall in a neighboring town before playing the latest show at the Sad Cafe in Plaistow, NH. They also participated in a local Battle of the Bands.
